Loyalty program benchmarks by industry
Retention benchmarks vary a lot by category, mostly driven by how often customers naturally need what you sell.
Cafés & quick-service
High natural frequency (multiple visits a week for regulars). A healthy return rate here is 55-70%, with reward redemption often above 40%.
Salons & personal services
Lower frequency (every 4-8 weeks) but high loyalty once trust is established. A healthy return rate is 45-60%, with redemption typically lower but per-visit spend higher.
Retail
The widest range — highly dependent on category. General retail return rates of 25-40% are solid, while specialty retail with a narrower, loyal audience can exceed 50%.
Use these as a general compass, not a hard target — your own historical trend matters more than matching an industry average exactly.
